Head Coach: Brad Burget







  Brad Burget has over 30 years of coaching experience at all levels. Currently Brad is Head Coach of the Beachwood Bison Swim Club, Beachwood High School and Middle School swim teams. Formerly(13 years) Heach Coach of the New Albany Aquatics Swim Club and New Albany’s assistant High School coach while overseeing the Middle School program.
 
 He recently spoke at the NISCA National conference. National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association which is the governing body that recognizes High School coaches, programs and High School All Americans. Brad is also scheduled to speak at the ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association) World conference in September.
 
His club teams have had numerous accomplishments some of which include:

  • Fastest High School boy in America in the 50 free John Sands 20.19 – February 2005
  • 5 NCSA Junior National Championship swims
  • Junior National NCSA Record boys 200 yard freestyle relay 2002
  • National USA Record 17-18 boys 200 meter freestyle relay 2003
  • National USA Record 15-18 boys 200 medley relay 2008
  • 9 USA Ohio Records, which includes 7 relays and 2 individual events
  • 100’s of USA Top 16 National Age-Group times
  • Anne Weilbacher 2004 Olympic Trials (U. of Michigan)
  • Joe Doyle 2008 Olympic Trials (Ohio State U.)
  • Chris Sanford 2008 Olympic Trial Qualifier

Brad has developed an extensive training program, which is recognized nationally by the swimming community that combines swimming and dryland with an emphasis on core strength, Pilates, Yoga, leg and arm speed (reaction speed). Nutrition, recovery and overall mental and physical health are all emphasized.
 
Over the years, he had swimmers compete in the Olympic trials, US Nationals,
US Open, Juniors USA and NCSA, OHSAA State Tournament, USA Sectionals, Zones, and the Age Group State Championships. Brad has coached champions at all levels except Senior Nationals, US Open and the Olympic Trials. He has coached hundreds of High School All Americans, State Champions, Sectionals, Zones, Age-group champs and qualifiers.
 
Prior to coaching at New Albany, he coached at the Greater Columbus Swim Team of Ohio, Newark Area Swim Team YMCA, and Novi Bobcats in Michigan. He
was the Assistant Coach for The Ohio State University Women’s swim team under Jim Montrella, 1986-87.
 
Many of his swimmers have extended their careers at the following colleges:
The Ohio State University, Michigan, Wright State, Bowling Green, Ohio University, North Carolina, Davidson, Johns Hopkins, Xavier, Butler, DePauw, Kenyon,
Dennison, Toledo, Eastern Michigan, Miami University of Ohio, Cincinnati,
Kentucky, Georgetown, Ashland, Wooster, Duke, Princeton, Columbia, Illinois Tech and many others.

John Mertler



Graduated  St. Charles Preparatory School in 2007, swimming all four years. He was All-State and All-American his junior and senior year, swimming for New Albany Aquatics club as a member of the National Team group. Qualified for Spring Nationals 2007. John then attended the University of Findlay and achieved all conference honors in the 100 fly.

Karli Kentner



Formerly a University of Cincinnati Bearcat, placing 5th in the 100 Breast at Big East Champs 2009. UC team record in the 100 Breast and received rookie of the year honors 2008-2009. Karli has been swimming competitively for over 15 years, 7 of them with the New Albany Aquatics Club swimming as a member of the National Team training group. Karli qualified for Spring Nationals in 2007. She currently holds 7 team records at Westerville Central High School. During high school, Karli placed in the top 8 at the Ohio High School State Championships five times in 4 years individually and 7 times on relays, achieving All-American and All-Ohio awards.
